When you are visiting the Galapagos Islands, if you can't be on land, the best (and only) other way of animal watching is via a zodiac. From a zodiac you can get close to the shore and the animals, as they carry on their daily activities.  However, if the waves are rough, taking telephoto photography is very demanding.  This image is one of my favorites from the trip.  I saw this pelican on the shore and asked the zodiac driver to get as close as possible, without scaring it off.  As we got into position for the shot, the waves were tossing the boat around.  I needed to have my camera settings just right, then I needed to time the shot when the boat was in either a high or low position, as that's when the boat would be in a static position if only for a moment.  I was ecstatic when I saw that I was able to capture the desired image.  The morning light and the bird's pose were perfect, the beautiful brown colors and textures were superb.
